The excessive drinking of alcohol that results in decreased nerve function causes alcoholic neuropathy. This can be severe or it can be minor depending on your drinking habits. The cause of alcoholic neuropathy is somewhat controversial. There are those that believe that it is related to nutritional deficiencies. There are others however that are confident that it is caused by the toxic effect of alcohol on nerve tissue. The most common symptoms are burning feet, weakness, tingling and numbness. In severe cases you can even see effects on the autonomic nerves that regulate the internal body.
