Cancer of the lungs is one of those diseases, which may get passed from one generation to another. It all depends on the family history of lung cancer. At least one faulty lung cancer gene can get passed down in the family through generations. Someone a first degree relative suffering from lung cancer has an increased risk of contracting this cancer.

Also in a family of heavy smokers, the exposure to cigarette smoke is much higher for the family members. This automatically, increases the risk of lung cancer in the family members.
