If you are thinking of preserving and storing your baby’s cord blood at birth, then here are a couple of things that might interest you.  Umbilical Stem Cells may or may not be used in life saving procedures due to the still unknown factors.  However, there is no harm and no foul if you choose to have your baby’s cord blood stored in a cord blood bank.  Be prepared to pay a big price and a yearly fee for maintenance if you decide to do this as it has a high price tag.  Even though currently there is no real proof that cord blood would ever be used or cure anything that might happen to your baby, there is nothing wrong with hope that the medical research in this area will find ways to make this work.
